There are many resons for which porcelain tooth veneers are used by cosmetic dentists. You may choose to have porcelain veneers placed on your teeth in order to give you that killer smile that you have always dreamed of, or you might want veneers to correct misshapen teeth, disfigured teeth, or gaps between teeth.
Porcelain veneers are very thin materials, wafer like shells of porcelain.
They are custom-made to adjust on the front surfaces of your teeth.
Below are a few advantages to having veneers:
1. They deliver a life-like looking finish.
2. They are stain resistant.
3. They can be used for cosmetic reasons.
4. They can be used in place of orthodontic dentistry, avoiding braces.
5. They can be used to easily cover minuet imperfections, holes, or
chips in your teeth.
If you’ve made up your mind that veneers suit you best, your cosmetic dentist will discuss the various options available to you. This of course depends on what repairs are needed to your teeth or if it is strictly cosmetic. Your dentist will give you the best options available to you in order to achieve the results you want.
The first step when choosing porcelain veneers is to have an impression of your teeth made which will be sent to a dental lab. The lab will then make a wax model of what your teeth will look after the veneers have been applied.
Basically, this model will give you an idea of what your teeth will look like when the procedure is done. You can go over any changes that might need to be made before your dentist starts the procedure. Once you’ve decided that the mold is acceptable it is sent back to the lab to make your custom porcelain veneers.
The second step invloves the prep work where temporary veneers are applied to your teeth. At this time your cosmetic dentist can make any corrections to the teeth that need the work done and it also gives you an opportunity to see and get a feel for the porcelain veneers.
Once your mold is completed at the lab, it is sent back to your dentist.
At that time you return to the dentist in order to have your temporary
veneers removed and the new porcelain veneers attached to your teeth.
You might experience a bit of sensitivity for a couple of days, but
that about it.
After all, it is well worth putting up with a little discomfort for
the end result of a beautiful smile.
